The Knox County Land Bank has secured final funding to transform 18 E. Vine St. into a dynamic space featuring office and restaurant areas with a fully renovated façade. A $1 million JobsOhio Vibrant Communities Grant completes the funding, paving the way for the project.
Central to the revitalization is Founders Food Hall, a modern culinary marketplace offering eight independent kitchens, diverse dining options, a full-service bar, and a four-season room with windows that open for a patio experience in warm weather.
“Founders Food Hall will bring energy and foot traffic to downtown Mount Vernon, becoming a hub for culinary innovation and community gathering,” said Sam Filkins, vice president of the Knox County Land Bank. “It will support restaurateurs in launching and growing their businesses while giving residents and visitors a unique, evolving dining experience.”
The name "Founders" honors Mount Vernon’s history, entrepreneurial spirit, and forward-thinking vision, celebrating the pioneers and hard-working individuals who shaped the community.
The redevelopment of the former Mount Vernon News building is anticipated to spark further investment downtown. “The revitalization of 18 E. Vine St. will create jobs, attract businesses, and offer a vibrant gathering space,” said J.P. Nauseef, president and CEO of JobsOhio.
New office space will also bring professionals downtown, benefiting local restaurants, shops, and services, while increasing economic vibrancy.
“Investing in Mount Vernon’s historic downtown ensures it remains a thriving place to live and work,” said Shelley Coon, chair of the Knox County Land Bank Board. “This redevelopment reinforces our commitment to growth and revitalization.”
The Knox County Land Bank collaborated with JobsOhio and One Columbus to secure funding. The project aligns with JobsOhio’s Vibrant Communities Program, which supports transformative real estate projects in distressed areas.
“Downtown Mount Vernon is already great, and Founders Food Hall will make it better,” said Kenny McDonald, CEO of One Columbus. “This investment will create opportunities for entrepreneurs, revitalize downtown, and boost momentum for Mount Vernon and Knox County.”
Construction is expected to finish in September 2025, with an opening date to follow. Entrepreneurs interested in Founders Food Hall can learn more at www.foundersfh.com.
