Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets shine at track and field meet

The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets Track and Field team recently delivered notable performances at their latest meet, setting several new indoor school records and achieving impressive state rankings.

Junior Lucy Rush led the team by securing victories in both the 1600m and 3200m runs. According to the event results, Rush set new indoor school records in both events, placing her third in state rankings for each race. Sophomore Megan Packard also excelled, winning the 800m and breaking the indoor school record, with her time ranking fourth in the state for that event.

Senior Sami Lacksonen achieved a personal best in the long jump, now ranking fourth in the state. Meanwhile, senior Dakota Wagner set a personal record in the shot put, breaking the indoor school record. In sprint events, senior Maddox Baker dominated both the 60m and 200m races with victories. Sophomore Nadia Nougi made her mark by setting a new indoor school record in long jump and winning the event.

The 400m race saw Mount Vernon sweep the podium with seniors Brady Wiles, Cole Wilson, and junior Brady Mills taking top positions. Coach Kathy Thayer expressed pride in her team's progress: "I’m very proud of the progress the athletes have made this season," she said. Thayer added that they have a strong senior class serving as role models for younger athletes.

The Yellow Jackets aim to continue their success throughout the season, with several athletes contending for top state rankings.
