As COTC considers sustainability, future of Montgomery Hall faces uncertainty

Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) has been committed to meeting the technical education needs of students in Licking, Knox, and Coshocton counties for over 50 years. COTC has served the Coshocton community from Montgomery Hall for 17 years.

Following the pandemic, enrollment at COTC has declined, mirroring a trend in two-year colleges. Prior to COVID-19, COTC had 3,471 students, but enrollment remains below pre-pandemic levels, creating budget imbalances and underused facilities.

Coshocton County’s enrollment continues to decrease, and attendance at the Coshocton campus is now unsustainable.

To ensure sustainability, COTC is exploring options for Montgomery Hall, including leasing or selling portions of the building or relocating to a more suitable facility.

COTC President John M. Berry, Ph.D., emphasized the college’s commitment to Coshocton County while focusing on the financial stability of the institution.

“Our commitment to the continued success of our students and the communities we serve is as strong as it’s ever been,” Berry said.

COTC has partnered with Shai-Hess, LLC to assist with the project. Details will be available at the Coshocton Campus Town Hall on March 5 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
