Centerburg’s girls basketball team continues to impress, cruising to a 74-25 win over Danville on Wednesday night. The Lady Trojans’ defense was stifling, forcing 34 turnovers, and their offense was equally potent, led by a dominant performance from senior Kayla Larimore.
Larimore, fresh off a historic milestone just days earlier, scored a game-high 29 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in the win. The senior reached 1,000 career points on Tuesday, December 3, in a 55-15 victory over Northmor. Larimore hit the milestone with a free throw in the second quarter and finished with 22 points in the game.
“It was special to hit 1,000 points, but my focus has always been on helping the team win,” Larimore said. “It’s nice to see all the hard work pay off, and I’m just glad we were able to get both wins this week.”
Alongside Larimore, junior Tiara Sheppard added 15 points, 5 assists, and 5 steals, while sophomore Kenlee Fairall contributed 18 points and 9 steals. Senior Lauren Ellis chipped in with 10 points and 5 assists.
The Lady Trojans’ defense was a key factor in the game, with Fairall registering 6 steals in the first quarter alone. Centerburg’s relentless pressure resulted in 34 turnovers by Danville, fueling the fast-paced offense.
“This was by far our most complete game of the year,” said Centerburg head coach Bill Abner. “We’ve historically struggled at Danville, so it was nice to see us put together a solid performance. I told the girls after the game that this is a glimpse of what we can be if we play together and for one another. We shared the ball and flew around on defense all night. When we get after it like that, we can be pretty good.”
Abner also praised the team’s improved ball control, as the Lady Trojans cut their turnovers to just 12, a significant improvement from earlier in the season.
“We’ve been working on taking care of the ball, and tonight we did a much better job of that,” Abner said. “I was really happy with the effort.”
The win improves Centerburg’s record to 4-0, while Danville drops to 0-3 on the season.
