The accidental dumping of asphalt on Mount Vernon streets by a private company was not part of any city project, according to the city's Safety Service Director on November 13.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate the community's cooperation as we work to resolve the situation," said Safety Service Director Tanner S. Salyers in a Mount Vernon Facebook post.

According to the Facebook post, the streets affected included Mulberry Street, Main Street, Edgewood Road, and Colville Road. City residents added comments indicating that East Gambier Street was also affected.

Salyers said that residents or motorists who experienced vehicle damage or other issues due to the asphalt dumping are encouraged to contact Albatross Asphalt directly at (330) 641-9004. For additional concerns or questions that require city attention, individuals can contact the Safety Service Office at (740) 393-9520 or email SafetyService@MountVernonOhio.org.
