The Mount Vernon City Council passed several pieces of legislation during its meeting on November 12.

The full list of legislation, which was signed by Council President Bruce Hawkins, approved by Mayor Matthew Starr, and attested by Clerk of Council Todd Hill, is now available for public inspection at the Clerk’s office.

Resolution No. 2024-117

The City Council passed a resolution authorizing the Safety-Service Director to enter into a lease agreement with Top Flight Real Estate LLC for the properties located at 9 and 9.5 East High Street. The lease agreement is expected to facilitate the use of the property for public purposes. The resolution, which was declared an emergency, received approval from both the City Council and Mayor Matthew Starr.

Resolution No. 2024-118

Another resolution passed on Tuesday allows the City Auditor to transfer specific funds as needed for the ongoing operation of city functions.

Resolution No. 2024-120

The City Council also approved a resolution authorizing the City Auditor to pay bills in accordance with Section 5705.41(D) of the Ohio Revised Code. This provision, known as the "Then and Now Certification," allows for the payment of bills that were incurred prior to the formal approval process, ensuring the city stays current on its financial obligations.

Ordinance No. 2024-44

The Council passed an ordinance establishing compensation, benefits, and terms of employment for the city’s Fire Marshal. The ordinance also declared an emergency, meaning it will take effect immediately. The decision aims to ensure fair compensation for the Fire Marshal’s position and clarify the terms of employment for this critical public safety role.
