Utility customers in Mount Vernon are advised to check their recent water, wastewater, and stormwater bills online after some received emails incorrectly stating they owed $0.0.

"We want to emphasize that this issue only affected customers set up to receive emailed bills; it did not impact customers who receive paper bills or who are enrolled in automatic bill withdrawal," a Mount Vernon news release said.

According to the news release, the error was due to a third-party data transfer issue during routine billing processes. The city's utility billing office has resolved the problem, and accurate billing information is now available.

The release further explained that customers who received emailed bills can view their correct balance by clicking on the "View Invoice or Pay Now" button located in the upper right section of the email. This link directs them to a secure payment portal where they can see their true account balance.

For additional concerns or questions, customers are encouraged to contact the utility billing office at 740-393-9504.

Mount Vernon's website provides information about its stormwater utility program, which funds maintenance and improvements of public drainage systems through collected revenues placed in a dedicated fund. The wastewater utility manages city wastewater treatment funded by related fees, while water utility fees support treatment plant operations, infrastructure improvements, and water distribution system maintenance.
