Mayor Matt Starr appointed Samantha Ramsier as Mount Vernon's interim auditor following the resignation of Terry Scott, who announced his retirement effective Sept. 6.
According to a Mount Vernon news release, Ramsier will fill the auditor's position for no more than 45 days until the Knox County GOP appoints a long-term replacement to serve out the remainder of Scott's term. Starr swore Ramsier into office effective Saturday, Sept. 7.
The city's news release stated that Scott announced at the Aug. 26 Mount Vernon City Council meeting that he would retire effective Sept. 6. He served in the elective position for 30 years, making him the longest-serving auditor in the city's history.
The Knox County Republican Party's Central Committee members who represent precincts within the city of Mount Vernon have a maximum of 45 days to appoint a long-term auditor. The GOP Central Committee has established a selection committee, chaired by Knox County Republican Party Chair Fred Daily.
Ramsier was born and raised in Mount Vernon and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Mount Vernon Nazarene University, according to the city’s news release. She minored in entrepreneurship. She owns and manages five tax offices and provides payroll and bookkeeping for businesses in Mount Vernon. She belongs to the National Tax Preparers Association and is a certified tax preparer. Ramsier also serves as president of TouchPointe Family and Marriage Resources. Her husband, Jesse Ramsier, serves as a patrol sergeant with the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
