Mount Vernon Fire Department schedules hydrant flushing beginning on Sept. 3

The Mount Vernon Fire Department will commence its annual hydrant flushing in the city's southern half on September 3, with an expected completion date of September 30. The flushing activities will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.

According to a fire department news release, residents are advised to avoid using their washing machines during these times. Sudden drops in water pressure may occur but should correct themselves within a few minutes. Anyone experiencing very low pressure or a temporary loss of water is urged to call the Mount Vernon Water Office at 740-393-9504 immediately.

The schedule specifies that flushing will occur from September 3-6 in grid 11; grids 12, 13, 14, and 15 will be handled from September 9-13; grids 16, 17, and 22 will be flushed from September 16-20; and grids 27, 18, 23, and 24 will be covered from September 23-27. Flushing may also be performed on September 30 if needed.
