"Activismo: Art and Dissidence in Cuba" features interviews and the artwork of prominent Cuban artist-activists. Initiated in 2016 by Elchert and Sugden, the project highlights how these artists use public performances to promote social and political change despite the significant risks and repressive policies of the Cuban regime. The production team also included visual storyteller and video editor Jason Baker, as well as Toledo-based Grammy nominee Tim Story, who composed a soundtrack inspired by Cuba—the music created to complement the artists' ideas.
The public screening of this documentary is free, but registration is required. For more information, contact Tamera Rooney at art@tamerarooney.com or 419-722-7810 or Carole Elchert at 567-208-3127.
