Jennie Lepley Newton passed away peacefully at home in Columbus on May 22. She was 82.
Jennie is survived by her husband, Donald Newton; her children, Brian Lepley and his wife Tonya Wilson of Houston, Texas, and Brenda Lepley Pigou, of Kingston, Pennsylvania; her grandchildren, Caroline and Jack Pigou, of Brooklyn, New York and Vail, Colorado respectively; older sister, Caryl Eppele of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and older brother James Burch of Howard, as well as her beloved dog, Finnian.
Born in 1941 to William and Ruth Burch of Gambier, Jennie graduated in 1959 from Howard High School. Jennie lived an active and vibrant life which included a love for reading fiction and historical nonfiction. For her whole adult life, she was a history buff, with a special interest in The Civil War. She traveled extensively in the U.S. visiting Civil War battlefields, history museums, and took many history tours. Locally, she was an avid volunteer at the Ohio Historical Society and Columbus Landmarks as well. Her favorite job was as a librarian at the Mauney Memorial Library in Kings Mountain, North Carolina in the 1970s. After her return to Mount Vernon, Ohio, in 1978 she became a paralegal at the Zelkowitz, Barry, and Cullers law firm. Jennie's next move was to Columbus in 1984 where she managed the Columbus branch of Medical Records Corporation. Jennie worked there until 1998, and she continued to work in the field of medical transcription for various doctors until her retirement in 2011. Jennie was a kind, humorous, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by many.
