Charles L. “Chuck” McKenzie | Provided

Charles L. “Chuck” McKenzie, age 83, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

He was born on Jan. 16, 1941, in Mount Vernon and was the son of the late Charles L. and Minnie (Harding) McKenzie Sr.

Chuck was a realtor for many years in Columbus, Ohio, and moved back to Mt. Vernon, his hometown, in 2015. He had great memories of growing up on Howard and Gambier Streets in the 1950s. Following the death of his son, Luke, he rallied back and found great joy in volunteer coaching middle school boys and girls teams at Worthington Christian School and North Columbus Athletic Association. He loved old cars, especially Packards, and was never without a nice fountain pen. His hearty laugh was known by all and was a true homebody, living a simple life, loving his Dachshund friends, Daisy and Stretch (and everyone else’s too!). He was an avid follower of current and political events, and above all, he loved his Lord & Savior.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jean L. (Lamb) McKenzie; a niece, Valerie (Adam) Lamb-Steece; sister-in-law, Patty Lamb; great-niece, Georgia Pulvermacher; great-nephew, Clark (Madison) Steece; and a brother-in-law, Barry (Jackie) Bowden.

He was preceded in death by a son, Luke Aaron McKenzie; sister, Susan Bowden; and a close friend, Dick Fowler.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 - 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 303 S. Edgewood Drive with Pastor Bill Barton officiating. Friends were able to call at the church one hour prior to services.

The Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel is handling the arrangements for the family.
