Emily Pauline Veatch, 97 of Newark, passed away on June 8, 2024 at her residence. She was born on July 26, 1926 in Danville, Ohio to the late Dale and Edith (Reed) Alexander.

Emily was the matriarch and rock of the family. She was a dedicated and loving mother, sister and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, canning and baking. 

She is survived by her daughters, Jane (David) Riley, Janet (Mike) Garrett and Josephine (Lonnie) Short; grandchildren, Brian Riley, Christy Riley, Stacy (Joe) Zigler, Jeff Garrett, Teresa (Jimmy) Sweet and Chuck (Cindy) Short; 9 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Walters, Martha Walters and Claire Barber; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ross Veatch; son, John Veatch; brother, Kenneth Alexander; and sister, Nancy Walters.

The family received friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Brucker-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Ben McKinstry officiating. Burial followed at Owl Creek Cemetery.
