The Mount Gilead softball team had a tough season going 7-16, but Coach Morgan Dettra was proud to announce that the team was well represented in KMAC awards.
Senior infielder Greer Simpson was named first team All-KMAC and second team All-District. She batted .518 this season including tournament play, belted four homers and was in the top 10 in slugging at .787.
Fellow senior Kierra Main was named second team All-KMAC and All-District, and did a great job at the plate with a .404 batting average. The outfielder showed her speed and baserunning awareness with 15 steals, good for third in the conference.
Freshman Anavey Jodrey was honorable mention All-KMAC and All-District. The young infielder batted .418 and showed the bright future for the Indians.
Dettra had a positive outlook for the program as a whole, despite carrying a tough winning percentage and losing their two best players to graduation. However, she acknowledged that there have been some growing pains. Next year’s squad will also be young, but will also have several players with another year of varsity under their belt.
“I feel our season was another building year,” Dettra said. “We are still young and will be again next year with only two seniors. We plan to focus on fundamentals, communication and mental toughness next season. We had two great seniors this year and they will be missed next year (Greer Simpson and Kierra Main). They both are hard workers and will do whatever is asked of them.”
