Residents will have another opportunity to comment on the draft of the Mount Vernon 2024 Zoning Code update at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 6. The Municipal Planning Commission will hold a special meeting at that time in the council chambers.

According to the Municipal Planning Commission's agenda for its June 6 meeting, the city's consultant explained that updates were being made to modernize regulations and remove stumbling blocks with administration and enforcement. Wendy Moeller gave her presentation at the commission's May 9 meeting.

The list of accessory uses includes community gardens, accessory dwelling units, outdoor dining, and rain barrels. Small livestock, including chickens up to six, will be allowed on smaller lots. A maximum of two accessory buildings will be permitted; one up to 240 square feet, and the second not larger than the footprint of the principal building.
