Azmoun sets season and career strikeout marks for Madison Comprehensive

Madison Comprehensive’s (17-5) Layla Azmoun made history last week in the pitching circle, as she broke both the career and single season school strikeout records. She now sits at 385 career strikeouts and 190 strikeouts on the season.

On May 2, Azmoun struck out 14 batters to break the school strikeout record that previously stood at 168, in an 8-3 win over Norwalk.

Azmoun went seven innings, allowing seven hits and a walk, and three earned runs to get the win.

The Rams tallied 12 hits in the game, led by Kyleigh Reiter who homered and drove in four runs, while scoring one, in a 2-for-4 day. Izzy Wamsley went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Allie Shrader was 2-for-3 with a double and Emily Nolan was 2-for-4 with two runs. Libby Bekeleski tripled and went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk. Campbell Kiser went 1-for-3 and tallied two RBIs in the win.

On May 4, Azmoun pitched a 15 strikeout shutout to beat the Wooster Generals 8-0. In the win she broke the school career strikeout record and ended the day with 379 over her career. 

Azmoun pitched a seven inning shutout, allowing two hits and striking out 15 batters in the historic win.

Shrader had a double for the Rams, going 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Nolan was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Wamsley went 2-for-4 with two runs. Reiter was 1-for-3 with a run and a walk. Ashley Markley went 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

On May 6, the Rams started out this week with a 7-5 win over the Clear Fork Colts. This made it 12 straight wins for Madison Comprehensive.

Azmoun got another win, going seven innings, allowing five earned runs, eight hits and three walks, while striking out six batters. Her 385 career strikeouts and 

Reiter went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI. Bekeleski was 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Nolan went 2-for-4 with a run, and Markley went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run. Kendyll Kershner drove in two runs on a 1-for-4 day.
