Martha E. Robey | Provided

Martha E. Robey, age 97, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2024, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon, Ohio. She was born on Jan. 29, 1927, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to the late Fred and Isabel (Jones) Ewart.

Martha graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1944 and went on to receive her nursing certification from Newark City Hospital following her nursing education, including cadet nurse’s training for WWII. She worked at Newark City Hospital, and also a private duty nurse in Mount Vernon, and she was a night nurse at The Ohio Eastern Star Home. After The Ohio Eastern Star Home, Martha worked for Dr. Henry T. Lapp in Mount Vernon for over 25 years. She was a lifelong member of the Owl Creek Baptist Church near Mount Vernon. She was an accomplished pianist, organist, and vocalist. Most importantly, Martha enjoyed being around her loving family.

Martha is survived by her children, C. Daniel (Roberta) Robey, Mary Mills, Ruth (James) Frady; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Martha is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ross F. Robey; grandson, Benjamin Frady; twin sister, Margaret Greer; brother, John Reed Ewart; and a son-in-law, Alan Mills.

A celebration of life service will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at noon with one hour of calling from 11 a.m. until the start of the service at Owl Creek Baptist Church; 4044 Owl Creek Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio, 43050 with Rev. Harold Van Broekhoven officiating. Burial will follow at Owl Creek Cemetery.
