Matt Schilling, Director of the Office of Public Affairs for the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) said rumors that no voting members will be present at the April 4 OPSB hearing concerning the Frasier Solar Project are incorrect.

Schilling told the Mount Vernon News that Public Utilities Commission (PUCO) and OPSB Chair Jennifer French will be attending the event being held April 4 at 5 p.m. at the Knox Memorial Theater located at 112 E. High St. in Mount Vernon.

French is a voting member of the OPSB.

“Jenifer French will be in attendance this evening, as well as representatives from other member agencies,” Schilling said.

He added that representatives from other member agencies will also be in attendance.

French was first appointed to the PUCO by Gov. Mike DeWine in 2021.

She was reappointed in 2024 with a term ending in 2029. Prioring to joining PUCO she was a judge in Franklin County and a member of the Westerville City Council.

The OPSB told the Mount Vernon News about French’s inclusion in the event after concerns were raised that none of the members of the OPSB have to be present for the hearing which prompted concerns about transparency and accountability in decision-making.

With the hearing set to shape the trajectory of the 1,500-plus acre project, the OPSB's role in approving or denying industrial solar applications is paramount.
