Danville Police Chief Weckesser wins Knox GOP Sheriff primary over "endorsed" candidate Shaffer

Danville Police Chief Daniel J. Weckesser has won the GOP primary for Knox County Sheriff with 46 percent of the vote, to 40 percent for William Shaffer and 14 percent for Wayne R. Noggle.

Unofficial results are as follows:

Weckesser- 5,029 votes / 46.0 percent

Shaffer- 4,409 votes/ 40.4 percent

Noggle- 1,486 votes / 13.6 percent

Weckesser has served 21 years in the Danville Police Department, including the last three as chief.

Shaffer is the Knox County Jail Administrator. He was endorsed by Knox County Prosecutor Chip McConville, outgoing Knox County Sheriff David Shaffer, Ohio State Sen. Andrew Brenner (R-19) and Ohio State Rep. Darrell Kick (R-98)

Noggle recently retired from the Knox County Sheriff's Office, where he worked for 33 years.

No Democrat filed a candidacy for Knox County Sheriff, so there was no Democrat primary in that race Tuesday.
