The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife has announced that the public will have the opportunity to visit state fish hatcheries this year during open houses. These free events are designed to educate visitors about fish production.

According to an ODNR Division of Wildlife press release, the Hebron Fish Hatchery in Licking County will hold its open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 6. The hatchery is located at 10517 Canal Road SE, Hebron.

The same press release informs that visitors will be able to view inside the holding house where saugeye and walleye eggs and fry are kept in tanks. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in archery activities, with equipment provided on-site.

Fish biologists will also be present at these events, according to the ODNR Division of Wildlife press release. They will set up survey boats and nets to demonstrate how they capture fish and use the data collected for managing fish populations. They will also answer questions about Ohio’s fish populations. A pond stocked with bluegill will be available for catch-and-release fishing.
