Three voice faculty members from the Mount Vernon Nazarene Music Department are set to hold a spring recital at 3 p.m. today in Thorne Performance Hall on the Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) campus. The recital is free and open to the public.

According to an MVNU press release, Carrie Vail, Rhonda Rom, and Lee Chambers will perform on Saturday, Feb. 17.

Vail, a mezzo-soprano and an assistant professor of music at MVNU, will sing "Frauenliebe und Leben" by Robert Schumann, according to the same press release. This song cycle is based on poems by Adelbert v. Chamisso and chronicles the life of a woman in relation to her eventual husband.

Rom, a soprano and an adjunct voice faculty member at MVNU, will present "Canciones Clásicas españolas" by Fernando Obradors as stated in the MVNU press release. This cycle's overarching theme encompasses various kinds of love. The audience can expect to hear influences of Spanish dances, flamenco, and Spanish guitar throughout her set. Rom also serves as worship director at Peace United Methodist Church in Pickerington.

Chambers, a tenor and adjunct faculty member at MVNU, will perform three French arias according to another MVNU press release. These arias include "Robins m’aime" from Le jeu de Robin et de Marion, "Que ce Séjour est Agréable" from Platée, and "Je crois entendre encore" from Les pêcheurs de perles. They demonstrate the progression of French opera from the 13th through the 19th century. Chambers also holds positions as MVNU's director of Student Success and the Nease Institute.

For their finale piece, the faculty members will perform as a trio presenting "Pria di partir, Oh Dio!" from Idomeneo by W.A. Mozart, according to the MVNU press release. For more information about MVNU’s music programs, visit mvnu.edu/music.
