Cardington-Lincoln (9-3, 5-1) bounced back from a tough loss with a solid 81-59 win over Mount Gilead (3-7, 1-4), putting the boys’ basketball team in a tie for first in the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference with Northmor.
The Pirates were led by the a three-headed-monster of Warren Garrison, AJ Brehm and AJ Hall who combined for the brunt of the scoring with 60 points.
Cardington-Lincoln had a huge first quarter, putting up 28 points in an offensive explosion while allowing 17 points. The Pirates had six threes in the quarter, with Garrison hitting three three of them. Hall and Isaiah Ward also had a three. Rowan Fitzpatrick drained a shot from downtown for the Indians.
The Pirates took a 48-43 lead at halftime, with Garrison putting up eight in the second quarter and 17 points at the half. Hall hit a pair of threes in the quarter and went into halftime with nine points.
Hall put up seven points including a three in the third quarter to lead the Pirates to a 14-11 advantage, making it a commanding 64-43 lead for Cardington-Lincoln after three. They finished the game strong with Brehm scoring six points down the stretch.
Garrison led all scorers with 21 points, including his three makes from downtown in the first quarter. Brehm had 20 points, and Hall put up 19 points that were highlighted by five threes. Journey Williamson had nine points, Ward had seven points and Kalin Briggs had five points to round out the scoring. The Pirates had 12 threes in the game.
Mount Gilead was led by Gage Baker, with the sophomore putting up 19 points in the loss. Cameron Vickers also hit double digits with 13 points, and Mitchel Sayre scored nine points. Fitzpatrick had eight points, Hayden Somerlot had five points, Tae Davis had three points and Jake Wilt and Carson Trainer each had a point.
The Pirates have put together an excellent season and have been especially solid on the road at 5-0. They have a road game against KMAC rival Fredericktown (5-5, 3-2) on Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
Mount Gilead has lost its last five games and is looking to turn things around on Dec. 20 in a road matchup with another KMAC rival Danville (1-13, 0-6), with top-off at 7:30 p.m.
