Isaiah Sule was on fire for Centerburg (3-3, 2-1) last week, putting up 28 points to lead the Trojans to a 59-37 win over KMAC rival Mount Gilead (3-4, 1-2).
The Trojans went up 5-2 with 5:15 on the clock in the first quarter when Sule drilled a three from the corner. Centerburg held a 16-9 lead after one quarter.
In the second quarter Sule scored on a fast break to make it a 22-9 game. He scored again on a fast break score to make it 28-11 with 3:50 left after stealing the ball and taking it to the hole for a layup. Bennett Hill quickly followed with a three to go up 31-11. Mount Gilead was able to go on a 7-0 run, but as time was expiring in the half Grayson Reynolds came up with a steal and scored on a layup making it 33-11 at halftime.
Reynolds scored again on a fast break to make it 41-24 in the third quarter when he stole a pass and took it to the hoop at the four minute mark. With 1:25 left in the quarter, Trevin Harris stole the ball and crashed toward the basket for a layup. Centerburg outscored the Indians 14-11 in the third quarter, and then 12-8 in the fourth to secure the win.
Centerburg shot 49.1% from the field and Mount Gilead was held to 32.6%. Both teams struggled from three at 20% and 22.2% respectively. The trojans had 26 transition points and 30 points off turnovers. Mount Gilead led in rebounds 38-27, but Centerburg led 10-6 in steals and 14-10 in assists. Centerburg forced 25 turnovers and held onto the ball well with only 12 of their own.
Sule was 12-for-21 shooting and 1-for-3 from three. He had three boards, three assists and three steals. Reynolds had 14 points on 7-for-14 shooting. He had five rebounds, eight assists and six steals. Also hitting double digits in scoring was Harris with 12 points on 6-for-10 shooting. Harris also had three rebounds, one assist and one block.
Jacob Wilt led the Indians with 17 points on 7-for-14 shooting. He had two boards and two assists. Carson Trainer had six points, 11 rebounds, one assist and one steal. Rowan Fitzpatrick has been the top scorer for the Indians this year, but was held scoreless. However, he found other ways to be effective with six boards, five assists and three steals. Cam Vickers scored two points to go with his three defensive boards and an assist.
