Danville girls' basketball off to hot start as 2024 comes to a close

The Danville girls’ basketball team is off to a hot start, going 6-2 overall and 3-1 to lead the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference this season.

The team has been especially on fire of late, winning their past four contests and polishing up their skills as each game passes. This season they have outscored opponents 477-398. They have a 4-1 home record and are 2-0 on the road. They lost their only neutral matchup.

The Blue Devils have been led by Ella Proper, who recently hit the 1,000 point milestone to secure herself as one of the top scorers in Danville girls’ basketball history. She sits at third in the conference in scoring at 13.9 points per game and is also in the top 10 in assists (3.0) and steals (3.4).

Also making nice contribution’s to the team’s success is Kylee Hess, who sixth in the conference in scoring at 11 ppg. She leads the conference in assists at 4.1 per game. She has also been able to snag rebounds, tallying 5.6 per game which is good for ninth in KMAC. Hess is also in the top 10 in blocks at 0.7 per game and steals at 2.7 per game. 

Addison Mickley has also cracked the top 10 in scoring, averaging 10.14 ppg. She is tied with Hess at 0.7 blocks, as well. 

The team has done an exceptional job getting to the free throw line, as well. The Blue Devils are 87-for-128 and the free throws have been integral in the team's success. Their 68% is second highest in the conference, and while Mount Gilead has hit 71.2%, the Blue Devils have made 40 more shots.

Most of the wins Danville has had have been fairly tight, but they have also had a couple in blowout fashion. They beat Patriot Prep Academy 66-20 and Genoa Christian Academy 79-48.

The Blue Devils started the season with a 51-34 loss to Norwayne, but since then they have been on point winning six of seven games. The loss during that time period was to Mount Gilead, last year’s KMAC champion, in a tough 53-50 loss. They will have a chance to avenge this loss on January 9 in a key road matchup in the second half of the season.
