The Highland girls’ basketball team went 1-1 last week with the win coming over Highland, giving the Lady Scots a 3-5 record and 2-3 in conference play with Shelby and Clear Fork leading the pack.
The Lady Scots picked up a 49-22 win over conference rival Galion (1-6, 0-4) on Dec. 14 in a game they dominated from the start. Highland led 18-5 after one quarter 27-13 at halftime. In the third quarter they controlled the game with a 16-6 advantage and finished strong down the stretch for the 27 point win.
Addie Mullins was the star of the game with 15 points on 5-for-7 shooting and 5-for-6 from the line. She also had four boards and two steals.
Aubree Bellamy had nine points, eight assists, five rebounds, a steal and a block. MaKaylee Merckling had eight points, six rebounds, three steals and a block. Kate Clements had a solid night with eight steals and a block on defense, to go with four points and five rebounds.
On Dec. 16 the Lady Scots traveled to River Valley (3-4, 2-3) and stumbled in a 51-29 loss. River Valley led 13-5 after one and 21-11 at halftime. They kept the pressure on in the second half with a 16-8 third quarter and 14-10 fourth quarter to take the lopsided win.
Merckling had 10 points, one rebound, one assist, one block and four steals. Mullins scored six points to go with three boards. Clements had four points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
This week the Lady Scots face Clear Fork (7-1, 4-0) on Dec. 22 at MVNU Ariel Arena starting at 5 p.m.
