Make it three straight for West Holmes (4-2, 3-0), as the girls’ basketball team took care of New Philadelphia (1-7, 0-2) and Ohio Cardinal Conference (OCC) rival Wooster (1-6, 1-3) to get on a nice little winning streak.
On Dec. 14 the Knights knocked off New Philadelphia 47-36 at home in an overtime win. West Holmes went up 10-9 after one quarter, but the Quakers battled in the second and took a 21-15 lead at the half. West Holmes outscored New Philadelphia 10-3 in the third quarter and New Philadelphia outscored the Knights in the fourth quarter to make it a 32-32 game at the end of regulation. West Holmes controlled the overtime period 13-4 to take the nine point win.
Briar Cline had 14 point, seven boards and three steals. Allie McMillen put up nine points, five boards and four steals. Zalina Proper had eight points and five rebounds. Chloe Patten scored five points and grabbed three steals on defense. Aveona Yoder had a solid all-around night with four points, three rebounds and three blocks. Keegan Uhl had four points, four rebounds and three steals.
Against Wooster, West Holmes led in every quarter in a lopsided win 63-36 win over conference the rival Generals on Dec. 16.
The Knights were up 8-7 after one quarter and outscored the Generals 18-13 in the second quarter to make it a 26-20 lead at the half. West Holmes dominated the third quarter with a 14-5 advantage, and then went off for 23 points and allowed only 11 in the fourth.
McMillen and Uhl did it all for the Knights, both leading the scoring with 15 points apiece. McMillen just missed a double-double with nine boards, and she also dished out four assists. On defense she was a major presence with six steals. Uhl grabbed five boards and had two assists.
Proper scored 10 points and had two steals on the night. Cline scored nine points and grabbed two steals, as well. Yoder scored six points and grabbed six rebounds. Nealie Fair had four points, and Patten scored three points and had three rebounds.
Next up for West Holmes is a matchup with Mansfield Senior on Dec. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at home.
