HOWARD – Four East Knox students in grades five through eight will represent their district in the 2024 Knox County Spelling Bee. They earned their way to the county bee by winning grade-level competition within their school.
Ava Hoobler correctly spelled “flummox” in the 10 th round to claim the fifth-grade title. Jace Daugherty was runner-up.
The sixth-grade champion is Callie May, who correctly spelled “disclaimer” in the eighth round. Runner-up was Collin Beltz.
Lucas Colopy claimed the seventh-grade title by correctly spelling “pervading” in the seventh round. Emmett Keener was runner-up.
The eighth-grade champion is Julia McNeely, who correctly spelled “innards” in the sixth round. Runner-up honors went to Rhyan Williams.
The Knox County Spelling Bee will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, in the Mount Vernon High School auditorium. The county commissioners will serve as judges. Taylor Gingery, the ESC’s gifted and talented coordinator, will be the pronouncer.
