On Dec. 16 the Cardington-Lincoln girls’ basketball team (4-4, 2-1) beat Northmor (1-6, 0-4) 56-24 to get above .500 in KMAC play, in a game led by Abigail Hardwick and Kinstin Henthorn who each reached double figures in scoring.
The Pirates led 13-2 to start off the game strong, led by Magi Hallabrin’s six points. They outscored the Golden Knights 23-10 in the second quarter to go up 35-12 at halftime. Hardwick had eight points in the quarter and 12 points at the half.
Cardington-Lincoln made it a 52-20 game at the end of three, with Hardwick scoring six points, and both teams scored only four points in the final frame.
Hardwick had 19 points to lead all scorers. Henthorn put up 12 points and Hallabrin had eight points. Madison Caulkins, Lydia Hess and Genevieve Longsdorf had five points. Jill Bertke rounded out the scoring with two points.
Northmor was led by Shelby Cooper with seven points, including a second quarter three. Maizy Brinkman had five points, all coming in the third quarter.
The win was a nice bounce back from a loss earlier in week that came against KMAC rival Danville (6-2, 3-1), 53-43.
Cardington-Lincoln had a 10-6 lead after one quarter, and then Danville woke up in the second quarter outscoring the Pirates 15-12.
With the Pirates leading 22-21 at the half, they kept the pace in the third quarter with an 11-10 advantage. The Blue Devils exploded in the fourth quarter with a 22-10 advantage to take the 10 point win.
Madison Caulkins had a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards, and also had two steals and an assist. Hardwick scored seven points and had eight boards, four assists, two steals and a block. Henthorn scored six points, while Hallabrin, Longsdorf and Lundyn Blevins scored five points. Hess had three points and Celia Hall scored two points to round out the scoring for the Pirates.
This week the Pirates take on East Knox (3-4, 1-2) in a KMAC matchup, on Dec. 20 starting at 6:45 p.m.
