Allie McMillen and Briar Cline of West Holmes were exceptional from the free throw line last week, combining for 13-13 to lead the way in a 54-40 win over Ashland in girls’ basketball action.
West Holmes had a 14-11 lead after one, with McMillen scoring eight points to lead the Knights. Chloe Patton and Jewel Brown both hit threes. Madison Hoffman had five points for the Arrows. In the second quarter the Knights outscored the Arrows 11-9, led by five points for Cline.
West Holmes had a 15-12 third quarter advantage with Zalina Pepper scoring five points including a three for the Knights. Hoffman had a pair of threes and eight points in the quarter. The Knights cruised to a 14 points win by outscoring the Arrows 14-8 in the fourth.
McMillen scored 14 points and was 6-for-6 from the line. Cline had 10 points, going 7-for-7 on free throws. Pepper had seven points and Chloe Patton and Aveona Yoder each scored six points. McMillen also had two steals, while Greta Rolince had three steals of her own. The Knights were 22-for-26 from the charity stripe, and hit four threes.
Through four games Cline is the top scorer with nine points per game, and McMillen has 8.3 points per game.
Ashland was led by Kennedy Lacey’s 17 points while Hoffman had 15 points. Lacey had five boards and four steals, in what was a great night for the freshman.
