CENTERBURG, Ohio— The Jacqueline McCalla-Cordle Children’s Fund food pantry has been royally blessed this evening by Girl Scout Troop 7660 led by Amy Burke and Misty Baum. The Troop collected food and money to help the pantry with the Christmas food distribution on December 16th. This is a large distribution and will provide 14 days of food to each family. The interim pantry director Ann Cordle was amazed at the amount of food and money collected from the local community. The pantry was presented with two large shopping carts full of donated food and an envelope containing $340.06. The cash funds were especially appreciated as operating expenses increased significantly during 2023.
In addition to the leaders and scouts, the delivery was attended by several parents. The Scouts asked great questions and Ann gave all a demonstration showing how food is packed for distribution as well as explaining how the Jacqueline McCalla-Cordle Children’s Fund pantry distributions include household items and 7-10 days of meals. One parent was so impressed with the program that they offered to cover the operating costs for January – truly a blessing for our community.
God does provide and may he bless these girls, their parents, and leaders. We are very thankful for all the food and money they worked so hard to collect on behalf of the Centerburg Local School District families. Together we will ensure there are no empty tummies in our community. We are also thankful for the guidance and mentorship of Amy and Misty for instilling these young people with the traits they will need to lead our country.
One of the Troop families owns a catering business and offered to donate the left-over food at the end of each day. This can be stored in the pantry freezers and used to supplement our “Heat and Eat” meals for clients of our senior program.
One parent mentioned that Jacqueline Ann McCalla Cordle operated the Centerburg Unit of the Salvation Army for 32 years. In truth she is the patron that inspired the Jacqueline McCalla-Cordle Children’s Fund with her daughter Ann being the founding director.
