Northridge FFA had a great turnout this year at the sub districts and district soils judging.  Students enrolled in the Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources class and the Plant and Animal Science class had the opportunity to learn about soils and soil judging during class to attend the subdistrict events. Some of our team members also chose to do soils judging as an FFA activity.  Students that attend soil judging spend a whole school day judging soils in pits, as well as taking a general knowledge test and a soil survey test. They had  20 minutes to find out different properties of the soil and determine how to manage it for both the urban soils (land being used for houses with basements, septic tanks, driveways and local roads or lawns, landscaping and gardening) or agricultural use (planting crops, managing for feed lots or not using it for agricultural uses.)

Our students who made it out of subdistricts and went to the districts were: In Urban Soils: Brayden Dowis- 58th place and Shawn Sargent- 69th place, 16th place team.

In Agricultural Soils: Lane Thompson- 28th, Lyla Stockberger-46th, Cheyann Severance- 56th, Maddie Korn- 58th, and Brayden Yoder- 73rd.  They were the 10th place team.

Congratulations to all who tried a new contest and skill in the FFA.
