After dropping the season opener, the Danville girls’ basketball team (2-1, 0-0) have won back-to-back games with Addison Mickley scoring 15 points against Genoa Christian Academy (0-2, 0-0), and following 24 points against Haynes (2-2, 1-0).
Danville trailed 15-13 after one quarter against Genoa, but they lit it up in the second quarter to take a 37-27 lead at halftime. Ella Proper hit two threes and had eight points in the half.
They scored 26 points in the third quarter and allowed 12 points, and the Blue Devils were cruising. After a quiet first half, Mickley had 11 points in the quarter to control the pace of the game. Danville finished off the night with a 16-11 advantage to walk away with a blowout win of 79-48.
Mickley scored 15 points with 13 coming in the second half. Kylee Hess also scored 15 points, including a three pointe. Broegan Staats and Ella Proper had 12 points and Kendal Lepley added 11 points.
“We shot the ball really well tonight, 32-for-58 overall field goals and 8-for-18 from three,” said Coach Matt Proper. “We played great team basketball tonight with 21 assists to 11 turnovers. And our pressure defense forced them into 23 turnovers which led to a lot of transition baskets for us.”
On Dec. 4 the Blue Devils had a tight 64-60 win, led by Mickley’s 24 points. She had nine points in the first quarter.
The Blue Devils trailed 17-13 in the first quarter 31-27 at the half, with Mickley scoring the brunt of the points with 17 points. They had a 19-16 third quarter advantage and finished 19-13 in the fourth to secure the win.
Proper scored 14 points, with all of them coming on free throws. She was 14-for-16 from the line. Hess scored 13 points and was 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Grace Gronberg had six points, Staats had five points.
