East Knox Local Schools has asked the community and local businesses for help to provide meat to children whose families struggle to get by.
"Our district is currently at a 47% poverty rate and those numbers continue to rise. Many of our families either qualify for very little SNAP benefits or are barely over the income guidelines," said Interim Superintendent James Peterson in a letter to the community.
In the next paragraph, we highlight that the school district seeks to alleviate this challenge by offering nutritious meals during holiday breaks when students are at home. This strategy is crucial as it acknowledges and addresses the increased burden on families who are already facing financial hardships.
Further plans reveal a collaboration with the Center of Hope in Bladensburg, Ohio, aiming at supplementing families' dietary needs with fresh fruits and vegetables. However, there's still a gap as the school district needs support in providing meats for these meals.
Lastly, Peterson made an appeal for assistance in offering turkey, hams, whole chickens, or any other forms of donations from local vendors that could help in improving these meals.
