Eugene Wolfe, age 86, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. He was born on April 28, 1937, to parents, Hershel Wolfe and Edith Ellen (Arnold) Wolfe.
Eugene grew up in rural Athens, County. He attended and graduated with honors from Rome Canaan High School where he graduated in 1956. He lettered in basketball, baseball, and track. He also was a member of the National Honor Society. Upon graduation he was awarded a scholarship to Ohio University. In 1958 he joined the United States Marine Corp. Eugene went through 13 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California. He went on to 6 weeks additional training at 2nd ITR. Upon completion of his training, he was promoted to private first class. His permanent duty station was headquarters co. 5th Marines FMF Fleet Marine Force, anywhere in the World in 24 hours, 1st Marine Division.
In 1959 Eugene and 4 of his fellow Marines were awarded the Meritorious Mast before the commanding officer for outstanding Performance of their duties. In 1960 Eugene was promoted to L/CP which he held for juration of his enlistment. Eugene served actively, honorably and with distinction from 1958-1961. He was a good Marine.
Eugene was preceded in death by his younger brother Virgil who served in the Army as a spec 5 tank commander, and his parents.
Eugene has gone to his final duty station, to be with his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
