Dorothy June Huggins Rex (Dot) 97, of Mount Vernon Ohio died August 17, 2023 at Ohio Eastern Home from natural causes.
Riley and Mary Huggins welcomed their ninth child, Dorothy June, into their home in Coshocton County on June 4, 1926. She was the youngest of a large family. Sisters Edna Harper King and Jessie Lord and brothers Walter, Wilber, infant Jimmy, Ralph, Clyde and Howard, as well as her parents preceded in her death. She was married to Paul B. Rex Jr. on June 16, 1946 at Brandon United Methodist Church. Theirs was a long and happy marriage lasting over 50 years ending only with Paul’s death in 2002. Their daughter Sue Ann Rex died in 1982. Their son Stephen Paul Rex Sr., Fredericktown, survives.
Also surviving are grandsons Stephen Paul Rex Jr., Nicholas Hunter Rex, granddaughter Lisa Williamson, great grandson Andrew (Kaelan) Williamson, great granddaughters Amberley Williamson Johnson, Alyssa Williamson, great-great grandsons Matthew Williamson, Morgan Williamson, Joshua Johnson and great-great granddaughter Mildred Brown.
She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1944 and attended Bliss Business College in Columbus. During World War II she was employed by the Air Service Command at Wright-Patterson Field in Dayton, Ohio. Her busiest days were her happiest days. During the years her children were growing up she was involved in their activities as a 4-H advisor for 28 years. She was also a member of Child Conservation League and Mulberry Street Methodist Church. She was a founding member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Mount Vernon. She was a member of Professional Secretaries Association and golfed in leagues at Irish Hills and Tomahawk Hollow. In addition she worked at Timken Roller Bearing, Memorial Hospital, then 25 years at Ohio State University Extension in Knox County. During her final year at OSU Extension she founded Alpha Charter Chi Epsilon Support Staff Fraternity. She also secured housing for the Knox County 4-H Center. In her retirement she continued community activities by establishing C.A.T. (Christian Activity Time) at the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, volunteering at Knox Community Hospital and Knox County Agriculture Museum. Even in death she continues to serve by donating her body to the Ohio State University Department of Anatomy.
There was be no visitation. A Celebration of Life was be held at the Mulberry Church, 206 N. Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon, OH 43050 on Saturday, August 26th at 2:00 P.M.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mulberry Church.
The last of a large family, she felt she should close the door quietly, but securely with peace and grace to all.
