Mount Vernon City Council voted to approve more than $950,000 in supplemental appropriations coming from three separate grants during its Oct. 9 meeting. The grants will be used to fund water system improvements and support the MERIT Drug Court.

Two of the grants will be used to fund water system improvements in the Clinton Township-Buckeye Addition project. According to draft minutes of the meeting, a $750,000 Small Cities Grant-Construction was received from the Community Development Block Grant program. An additional $200,000 grant was given by the Ohio Public Works Commission.

In addition to the water system grants, the City Council also accepted a $3,298 grant from Mental Health & Recovery for Licking/Knox Counties for the MERIT Drug Court. This grant will provide support for the drug court program.

During the meeting, Councilmember Janis Seavolt made a motion to suspend the requirement for three separate readings of the ordinance. The City Council then unanimously voted to approve the supplemental appropriations ordinance.

The grants will help fund important projects in Mount Vernon, including water system improvements and support for the MERIT Drug Court. These investments will benefit the community and contribute to its overall well-being.
