Madison Comprehensive (1-7, 1-4) made easy work of Mount Vernon (2-6, 1-4) on the gridiron on Friday, walking away with a 38-0 win for their first win of the season in convincing fashion.
The Rams went up 3-0 in the first quarter on a Camden Moysi 28-yard field goal, and then tacked on 14 points in the second quarter to make it a 17-0 game.
Cameron Kuhn connected for 45 yards with Grayson Sasis, which set up a scoring drive that culminated with Khris Adkins-Tolbert taking it in for a two-yard touchdown run. Sasis also scored in the quarter for the Rams.
In the third quarter Madison Comprehensive added 14 points highlighted by a 30-yard pass play to Justin McCraney from Kuhn, and then finished the game with seven points to secure the big shutout to put them in the winning column.
Mount Vernon could only muster 149 total yards in the game, with 97 rushing yards and 52 passing yards. The Rams had 154 passing yards and 147 rushing yards. The Rams had a 14-8 first down advantage and they recovered three fumbles in the win.
Kuhn threw for 154 yards and had touchdown pass to Justin McCraney of 30 yards to lead the Rams to the shutout win. Kuhn connected twice for big gains for Sasis, once for 45 yards and another on a leaping grab for 37 yards. Adkins Tolbert had a pair of rushing touchdowns in the win.
For the Yellow Jackets, Mav Gregory ran nine times for 61 yards but he fumbled. Mason Richards was held to 29 yards on eight carries with a fumble. Senior running back Jonny Askew couldn’t get going after hurting his ankle early in the game, tallying four carries for five yards. Askew caught two passes for 16 yards.
