Mount Vernon, City of Mount Vernon said Mount Vernon sharing designs for the new court, and police station buildings on Oct. 5.

Mount Vernon will hold back-to-back meetings on Oct. 5 to share design renderings for its new Municipal Court building and new police station, followed by a meeting on its proposal to improve State Route 13. The public meeting for the design renderings will take place from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at The Station Break Senior Citizens Center of Knox County on 160 Howard Street.

The city of Mount Vernon recently purchased four properties on and near the Public Square as part of the relocation plan for the Municipal Court and other City offices. The decision to relocate came after the city determined that renovating the current building at 5 Gay St. would be too expensive. One of the properties that will be demolished is located at 3 E. High St., and a new building with a design in line with downtown Mount Vernon's historical and architectural character will be constructed in its place. The new building will have retail space on the ground level, with the Municipal Court on the second floor, the Probation Department on the third floor, and the Law Director's offices on the fourth floor.

In addition to the Municipal Court building, the Police Department will also be relocated. The new location will be at 71 Suchar Road, across from the Hiawatha Water Park.

After the first meeting regarding the court and police station designs, there will be a 30-minute break followed by a second public meeting to discuss the proposal to improve South Sandusky Street, also known as State Route 13. This meeting will take place in the same room at The Station Break and will run from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Mount Vernon residents are encouraged to attend these meetings to get a glimpse of the design renderings for the new Municipal Court building and Police Station, as well as to provide feedback on the proposal to improve State Route 13.
