Mount Vernon 10, New Philadelphia 35

Mount Vernon lost to New Philadelphia with a score of 35-10  

In the first quarter, Junior quarterback Keaton Fausel scored the opening points for New Philadelphia with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Owen Schoelles in the back left corner of the end zone. Following a penalty against the Yellowjackets, Etnie Richardson added two more points for the Quakers with a successful two-point conversion run, bringing the score to 8-0 in favor of New Philadelphia.  

Mount Vernon managed to respond with a Gabe Montoya field goal in the first quarter, narrowing the score to 8-3, but they were unable to get any closer. New Philadelphia led comfortably at halftime with a score of 22-3 and extended their lead to 28-3 with just a minute remaining in the game, ultimately sealing their victory. 

Mount Vernon, quarterback Jake Taylor had a completion percentage of 36.4%, accumulating 39 passing yards but with one interception and no touchdowns. Quarterback Mason Richards made three carries, gaining 32 rushing yards at an impressive 10.7 yards per carry rate, and scoring one touchdown. Running back Mavrik Gregory carried the ball seven times, amassing 67 rushing yards at a rate of 9.6 yards per carry and also scoring one touchdown.

Overall, Mount Vernon gained a total of 107 yards, with 30 yards through the air and 77 on the ground. In contrast, New Philadelphia showcased a dominant performance with 413 total yards, including 135 passing yards and a substantial 278 rushing yards.

When it came to third-down conversions, the Yellowjackets managed to convert 3 out of 10 attempts, experienced one turnover, and had no fumbles but one interception. The Quakers, on the other hand, converted 2 out of 7 third downs, experienced one turnover, and had one fumble, but no interceptions.

Mount Vernon's upcoming matchup is an away game against Wooster scheduled this Friday, Sept. 29. 

Cardington-Lincoln Local Schools 0, Centerburg 21

Cardington-Lincoln lost their home conference game to Centerburg. 

The Trojans immediately took a wide 14-0 lead in the first quarter and extended it to a 21-0 entering the third quarter.

Neither Cardingoton-Lincoln nor Centerburg scored in the second half.     

The Pirates managed to accumulate a total of 181 yards, with 123 yards gained through passing and 58 yards gained from rushing plays. In contrast, the Trojans displayed a more potent offense, amassing a total of 392 yards, with 233 yards attributed to their passing game and an impressive 159 yards gained through rushing efforts.

Cardington-Lincoln faced some challenges, converting only 2 out of 15 third-down attempts but managed to protect the ball well, with zero turnovers, fumbles, or interceptions. On the other hand, the Centerburg Trojans displayed efficiency on third downs, converting 10 out of 17 attempts. Nevertheless, they did experience some turnovers, with two fumbles, though they managed to avoid interceptions. 

Looking ahead, Cardington is scheduled to face Danville on September 29 in a conference game, where they will aim to improve their offensive performance. Meanwhile, the Centerburg Trojans are set to host Mt. Gilead on the same date, with hopes of continuing their strong offensive showing and securing a victory.

Danville 52, Loudonville 15

Danville secured a commanding 52-15 win over Loudonville in a Sept. 22 conference game. 

The visiting Blue Devils took a 16-7 lead over the Redbirds in the first quarter. By halftime, Danville had surged ahead, leading the Loudonville with a score of 32-7. Both squads managed to score during the third quarter. But th e Blue Devils dominated the scoring in the final quarter, ultimately sealing it with a 12-0 advantage.

Danville is set to challenge Cardington-Lincoln in a home conference on Friday, Sept. 29 while Loudonville is slated to visit Fredericktown to play against the Freddies on the same day. 

East Knox 28, Mt. Gilead 0

The visiting Bulldogs dominated the Indians during their conference match on Sept. 22.

East Knox stormed ahead with a 14-0 lead over Mt. Gilead in the first quarter. Though they were not able to score any points in the second quarter, the Bulldogs were still able to shut out the Indians until the final quarter.

Heading into the last quarter, the Bulldogs had extended their lead to 21-0.

East Knox demonstrated their superiority in fourth-quarter scoring, capping off the game with a 7-0 advantage and final score of 28-0.

East Know Bulldogs will fight Northmor Golden Knights this Friday. 

Mt. Gilead Indians will also have an away conference game in Centerburg to face the Trojans on Sept. 29.    

   

Fredericktown High School 0, Northmor 35

The Fredericktown Freddies suffered a resounding 35-0 defeat at the hands of the Northmor Golden Knights 

The Freddies only registered eight first downs and 127 yards compared to the Golden Knights' 18 first downs and 332 yards of total offense.

Despite not scoring in the final quarter, the Golden Knights easily pulled off a 35-0 win against the Freddies.

Frederictown's current record stands at 2-4. Northmor on the other hand is at 4-2. 

 

Highland Local Schools 14, Shelby 48
 

Shelby asserted their dominance with a commanding 48-14 victory over Highland in a conference match on Sept. 22. 

Early on, neither team established clear superiority, as both squads battled to a 14-14 tie in the first quarter. 

The Whippets managed to secure a modest 26-14 lead over the Fighting Scots at halftime. As the game progressed, the Whippets decided to completely shut out the visiting Fighting Scots until they closed out the game.

The Fighting Scots managed to only accumulate 145 passing yards and 134 rushing yards compared to the Whippets' 223 passing yards and 236 rushing yards.  

Utiica 14, Newark Catholic 17

In a conference game held at their home field, the Utica Redskins emerged victorious with a final score of 14-7 against Newark Catholic Green Wave on Friday. 

The first score of the game came in the second quarter when Utica executed a 2-yard rushing touchdown, putting them ahead with a score of 6-0. They followed it up with a successful point-after attempt (PAT), extending their lead to 7-0 with 11 minutes remaining in the half. They continued to put in more scores and as the clock ticked down to halftime, Utica managed to add another touchdown, making it 14-0 at the halftime break. 

Newark Catholic made a comeback in the third quarter but was not able to sustain the authority over Utica. Both teams did not score in the last quarter.

The Redskins accumulated 45 passing yards and 184 rushing yards compared to Green Wave's 141 passing yards and 70 rushing yards.

Utica will host Heath in a home conference game on Friday.
