Norma Jean “Frye” Magers, our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother went to Heaven on Friday afternoon, Sept. 1, 2023 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on June 4, 1930 in Mount Vernon to the late Jesse Rolland and Mary Elizabeth (Durbin) Frye.

Norma was a 1948 graduate of the former Gambier High School, where she was a cheerleader.  She married the love of her life, Dalton Magers on March 30, 1949 and they spent nearly 70 years together before Dalton’s passing on February 10, 2019.   She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church for 67 years.  Norma had a true passion for cooking and baking for family and friends from near and far. Norma worked for New Hope Schools for 30 years.

Left to cherish Norma’s memory are her children, Linda Magers Wolfe of Mount Vernon and Gene (Debbie) Magers of West Chester; her grandchildren, Tony (Michelle) Magers of Phoenix, AZ and Nina Rachael (Jared) Armstrong of Kettering; and her great grandchildren, Kinsely and Crosby Magers and Noah and Lucas Armstrong. She is also survived by her sister, Edith Cosner of Mount Vernon; sister-in-law, Marilyn Magers; numerous nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends.

In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Dalton L. Magers; sisters, Shirley Fowler, Janet Tucker, Josephine Fowler, and Betty Hannan; and brothers, Kenneth and Donald Frye.

The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until the time of a funeral service celebrating the life of Norma at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023 at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Dowds Chapel, 201 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon with Mr. Roger Marra and Pastor Clarence Hensel officiating.  Norma will be laid to rest beside her husband, Dalton in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

The family expresses their appreciation to the staff of the Ohio Eastern Star Home and Hospice of North Central Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, 505 Eighth Ave., Suite 902, New York, NY 10018 in Norma’s memory.
