What they are saying Aug. 5

COLUMBUS

State Rep. Beth Lear (R-Galena)

“I’m voting YES on Issue 1 to protect our 2nd Amendment. Ohio Gun Owners, Buckeye Firearms and the NRA all agree!.”  – Facebook, July 21

State Sen. Andrew Brenner (R-Delaware)

“Several of you have fairly asked me why you as a voter should vote in an August special election when I as a member of the General Assembly voted last year to eliminate it. Attached with this abbreviated explanation is a link to the copy of the overall bill, which was House Bill 458. The overall bill was a voter photo ID bill, which I had supported before. The bill had numerous parts to it and the August special election was a small part of the bill. The bill left the August special election in place for school districts who needed an emergency levy. I supported that position.

You can read that in the bill analysis.

When I vote for a bill, I look at the overall aspects of a bill to determine if I should vote for it and/or Cosponsor it. I don’t necessarily agree with everything in a bill. For instance, I voted for the budget bill, but I don’t agree with everything in the budget bill. In the case of HB 458, I felt this was a good bill with a lot of good overall public policy.

I also supported, eliminating the August special election that is needed all the time due to request from the board of elections. What we have placed on the ballot is a constitutional amendment, which I believe is worthy of an August special election. That being said, I would’ve preferred that this be on the May ballot.

Unfortunately, the Ohio House was not ready to pass it in time for the May ballot.

This was the next best option. Clearly voter turnout is up significantly from prior August special elections.” – Facebook, July 21

WASHINGTON, D.C.

U.S. Rep. Troy Balderson (R-OH12)

“There are 92,000 electric vehicles sitting unsold on American car lots. Consumers are saying loud and clear that they not ready to go fully electric, and Washington should listen.Today, the @HouseCommerce. Committee is fighting back against the Administration’s radical electric vehicle mandates to preserve choice for consumers.”  – Twitter, July 27

U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio)

“Hysterical if it wasn’t so tragic. Beginning to believe the best comparison for Merrick Garland’s Department of Justice is the Sicilian mob. It’s basically a protection racket for the Democrats." "This is why we’re holding DoJ nominations. Why give this department easy access to personnel if he’ll use those guys for politics instead of justice?” – Twitter, July 27

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio)

"Ohio, have you made your plan to vote NO on Issue One? Take a friend and find your early voting location.”  – Facebook, July 28
