Ricky “Rick” W. Lanning, 72, of Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, in Shelbyville, Kentucky. He was born on Nov. 23, 1950, in Mount Vernon to the late Bernard and Helen (Ackerman) Lanning.

Rick was a superintendent for Hospitality Groups Construction. Before working in the construction business, Rick was a meat cutter for the family store, Lanning Foods. He enjoyed drag racing at Pacemakers, taking care of the homestead, sitting on the front porch, creating his outdoor Christmas display, building furniture and collecting model Mustangs.  

Rick is survived by his wife, Joleen (Pierson) Lanning; children, Stephen (Elizabeth) Lewis of Swansey, Georgia, Michael David (Christy) Lewis of South Tampa, Florida and Brian Lanning of Mount Vernon; nine grandchildren; a brother, Randy (Kathy) Lanning of Mount Vernon; and his canine companions.

In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Lanning.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Dowds Chapel, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, with Pastor Norman Miller officiating.
