MOUNT VERNON – Michael R. Hobbs, 77, of Hilliard (formerly of Mount Vernon) passed away on June 29, 2023, in Hilliard. He was born on Dec. 9, 1945, in Mount Vernon. Michael always showed courage in the face of adversity throughout his life.
After graduating from Otterbein University where he played football, he enjoyed a long and successful career in various vocations including teacher, bar owner and real estate broker. As a man of faith, he frequently attended church at the Faith Life Church in New Albany, Ohio. As a proud father, Michael’s favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren and family. He also enjoyed working out, spending time with friends, rooting for the Buckeyes and the Browns and eating desserts whenever he could. He will be remembered for the humor he brought into a room and the immense love he had for his family and friends.
Michael is survived by his mother, Jean (McCalla) Hobbs; his children, Andrea Ignasiak of Dublin, Kylie (Ryan) Hoover of Hilliard, Jacob Hobbs of Grove City and Sydney Hobbs of Delaware; grandchildren, Finn, McKenna, Layne, Anderson and Sawyer; sister, Jill Phillips of Mount Vernon and many extended family members.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Eugene Hobbs; son, Michael; his brother, Charlie; sister-in-law, Sue and a nephew, Hugh.
The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
Calling hours will be Thursday, July 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Flowers ~ Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050. Funeral services will be Friday, July 7, at 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home followed by graveside services at Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg.
