Fredericktown Senior Citizens welcome 5 new members

FREDERICKTOWN – The Fredericktown Senior Citizens met on June 14, at 11:45 a.m. There were 33 members and guests present for the potluck luncheon. Paul James gave a prayer and then the Pledge of Allegiance.

President Ann Ullman welcomed the group's newcomers Eugene Stevens, Terry Stevens, Debbie Berger, Marilyn Smith and Mandy Halderman.

Fredericktown Police Chief Tracy Myers gave a history of himself and what he had done before coming to the Fredericktown Police Department. Myers started with Fredericktown on Jan. 1, 2022. Myers talked about what calls and actions the police department handled in 2022 and where we are as of today. The main talk was on scams and what to do or not do if you receive a scam call.

The reading of the secretary’s minutes was waived due to time. Treasurer Phyllis Shira reported no change in the money.

Birthdays for June are June Carpenter, Joanne Baugher and Phyllis Shira. All sang “Happy Birthday.” No deaths were reported. Anniversaries were Debbie and Jeff Berger, Ray and Pat Davis and Sue and Morris James. All sang “Happy Anniversary.”

In old business, Margaret Ann Ruhl announced the trips on June 22 to the Cleveland Guardians baseball game, Sept. 21 to LaComedia for Grumpy Old Men, Oct. 18 to Stan Hywet House and Gardens and Nov. 2 to LaComedia for “Miracle on 34th Street.”

Announcements – Farmers Market every Thursday on the square from 4-6:30 p.m., Neighborhood Watch at Village Council Chambers every third Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. (next one is June 20), Interchurch Social Services extended hours on Thursdays to 6:30 p.m., Lions Club of Fredericktown dissolved at their last meeting in June and the July 4 activities include a softball tournament, bingo and music all day. Food trucks will be there with fireworks at dark.

Remember Kathy Dean Ridenour, who fell and broke her wrist; Martha Blanchard’s great-grandson, Mark Douglas, who is 3 years old and has leukemia and Jackie Brewer, who is improving at Newark Rehabilitation Center.

Ann Ullman ended the meeting with a reading of a funny story.

The next meeting is July 12, with J.T. Dechant, Knox County Emergency Services director, as the guest speaker.

The meeting was adjourned by Nancy Cline and seconded by Paul James.
