MARENGO – Highland Middle School eighth-grade students were recently nominated and selected to receive sportsmanship and citizenship honors for their conduct as student-leaders during the 2022-23 school year.

Kasey Clark and Reagan Maibach received the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s prestigious Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award. The award, named for two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin, is presented each year to a male and a female student who have been outstanding in their efforts to promote sportsmanship, ethics and integrity in the school and community.

Caleb Youngman and Korlyn Miller received the National Federation of High School’s National Award of Excellence. The award is presented to students who have exhibited qualities that embody good citizenship, good moral character, good sporting behavior and are positive role models for others.

Students receiving the HMS Scot Pride Award include Jett Black, Brendan Bracken, Brady Byler, Nicholas Carpenter, Dustyn Chmielewski, Breyer Cooper, Gavin Cornette, Caiden Daugherty, Hunter Ebner, Austin Guisinger, Kingston Hamilton, Landon Hughes, Morgan Kline, Cade Minnick, Hayden Moore, Branson Newsome, Braxtyn Sqrow, Kane Stover, Gavin White, Abi Appleman, Rozz Benedict, Maddie Blubaugh, Kylee Boggs, Payton Bradley, Amelya Bragg, Skyy Brown, Madison Celli, Kynzie Green, Bri Guedry, Abby Hinkle, Olivia Hover, Ella Johnson, Rebecca Johnson, Addi Liszkai, Ash Mendez, Rilyn Mott, Lily Nieson, Ashton Prest, Abigail Ramirez, Madilynn Stuckman, Vivian Schreiber, Amber Walker and Ava Williams. The award is aligned with the positive behavior expectations at Highland Middle School, and these students demonstrated behavior that was honorable, mindful and self-aware.

The honorees were presented with their awards at the annual Highland Middle School talent show, held June 2.

The National Federation of High Schools, the Ohio High School Athletic Association and Highland Middle School strongly support good sportsmanship among the youth and adults in our schools and workplaces.
