To the Editor,

In the fall of 1986, as a college freshman, I worked on my first series of Republican political campaigns. It was a difficult start.

Republicans lost every single statewide race that year, most by very large margins. Democrats held the Ohio House and the Supreme Court of Ohio. Democrats also took back control of the U.S. Senate. It looked like the future for Ohio Republicans would be bleak.

But that changed just four years later when we won control of two of the three apportionment board seats. That enabled us to draw fair lines and win Republican control of the Ohio House.

Today, Ohio Democrats have given up on winning a seat on the new redistricting commission by running credible candidates for auditor, governor and secretary of state.  Instead, they want to legislate by forcing issues into our state constitution.

Right now, leftist Democrats are circulating petitions to enshrine late-term abortion on demand in our state constitution. Next on the agenda will be a $15 per hour minimum wage and possibly even an “assault rifle” ban. They also want to push through an “independent” commission to draw legislative districts.

Don’t be fooled. These issues are legislative issues that should be decided by our elected representatives. If you are asked to sign one of their petitions, please decline to do so. Let’s not turn Ohio into California.

Sincerely,

Scott Allan Pullins, Esq.
