MOUNT VERNON – The Ohio State Bar Foundation presented Attorney Cynthia A. Cunningham, a partner in the Mount Vernon law firm of Kidwell & Cunningham Ltd., with the District 9 Community Service Award for Attorneys 40 and under. The presentation occurred on April 12, at the Alcove Restaurant in Mount Vernon.

Attorneys eligible for the Community Service Award must be 40 years of age or younger and they must contribute substantial time and effort in service to a local civic, artistic, cultural organization or social service. Additionally, services must be outside the recipients’ practice of law and given without compensation. There is one honoree in each of the Ohio State Bar Association Districts. District 9 consists of Coshocton, Fairfield, Knox, Licking, Muskingum and Perry counties.

Cunningham’s long history of community service is best summarized by Steve Oster, superintendent of the Knox and Coshocton County Boards of Developmental Disabilities, who nominated her for this award.

"Cindy continually gives back her time to the community," Oster said. "She takes the time, knowing how important community is and with her whole heart supports people, organizations and causes, making Knox County a better place for everyone. Everyone in Knox County respects Cindy and enjoys her knowledge, passion and great sense of humor."

Cindy’s guests at the award ceremony were Oster and her parents, Richard and Susan Cunningham of Fredericktown.

Upon learning of this award, Cindy said, "I am truly honored and humbled by this award. There are many people in central Ohio who struggle every day. Seeing them overcome obstacles in their lives is more than enough reward for me. Thank you to Steve Oster for nominating me; and a special thank you to my parents, who have always led by example."
