Knox County home values are among the state's best bargains according to a recent study.
According to a release, an analysis conducted by SmartAsset that looked at where homes gained the most value over a five year period indicated that in the state of Ohio, Knox County home values were among those receiving the most value relative to property taxes paid.
The study looked at key metrics and ranked Knox County sixth place in the state of Ohio for places receiving the most value for their property taxes. The study analyzed property taxes paid, school rankings and the change in property values throughout the five-year period.
"First, we used the number of households, median home value and average property tax rate to calculate a per capita property tax amount that is collected for each county," according to SmartAsset. "Then, we calculated the change in property tax value in each county throughout a five-year period. Places where property values rose by the greatest amount indicated where consumers were motivated to buy homes, and a positive return on investment for homeowners in the community. Finally, we calculated a property tax index, based on the criteria above. Counties with the highest scores were those where property tax dollars are going the furthest."
The top five counties on the list were, in order, Scioto, Meigs, Jackson, Vinton and Hancock with Knox, Allen, Pike, Franklin and Marion Counties rounding out the top ten.
