Markt will move its business from Harcourt Road in Mount Vernon to the Heartland Commerce Park in May, it confirmed on Facebook.
Mayor Matt Starr told the Mount Vernon News the first business that moved into Heartland was from out of town, but Markt is a Mount Vernon business that is moving to expand.
The expansion and making room for another business by vacating the Harcourt property should help with the city’s municipal income tax, the mayor said.
Markt is subletting space to Experience Mount Vernon.
“That’s what we hoped for,” Starr said. “We wanted to make sure that we were responsive to the current industrial and commercial investors as well as just trying to attract new investors from the outside in.”
Columbia Gas repairs natural gas leak at a residence on Vine Street
Although the leak was repaired, the incident highlighted the importance of safety.
Starr said residents should call the natural gas emergency hotline at 800-344-4077 if they smell gas or suspect a leak.
The aggregation letter for natural gas has been sent out from IGS Energy and the city. Starr said if a resident receives it in the mail and sees the IGS Energy logo at the very top with Mount Vernon’s logo underneath it and his signature, that is the legitimate letter.
Residents already enrolled in the aggregation program do not need to do anything if they wish to stay in it. Responses are required to opt out.
The rate will be a variable amount from the New York Mercantile Exchange price, plus an additional 15.9 cents per charged cubic foot, plus any applicable state and local taxes, Starr said.
Street crews work on concrete repairs on city streets
Street department crews were out doing concrete work on curbs and gutters this week, Starr told the Mount Vernon News. Work locations included West Pleasant Street between Sandusky and Norton Streets. Other work was on Prospect Street between Calhoun and Scott Street.
