To the Editor:

On the Attorney General's certification of language to amend abortion into the Ohio Constitution:

Today, the attorney general fulfilled his constitutional and statutory duty to certify that the summary provided of the ballot language was a true and accurate summary. This was not a surprise, given that the opponents provided nearly verbatim language for both.

While they have met this procedural step today, it will not be so easy to convince Ohioans to go along with their dangerous and irresponsible plan to eliminate government oversight of abortions and abortion providers. This is an extreme and dangerous proposal that will mandate Ohio's Constitution to enable cruel and painful abortion procedures later in pregnancy – even on healthy babies – invalidate informed consent laws, and eliminate parental notification when children are provided abortions or sterilization. This is an extreme and dangerous plan that goes too far for Ohio.
